Theatre Begins Here podcast is my favorite way to start the day. It’s the “phone a friend” I deeply enjoy (and sometimes need!) to feel connected to our theatre community at large. The conversations offer inspiring and varied ways to think about making a life (and path) in the theatre and when so much of a playwriting life is spent alone, writing – it’s been a bright note in my day, a lineline to our community, and a way to remember there is kindness, compassion, and hope in our industry. There’s so many ways to find home and connection in our community – Theatre Begins Here has been one of the easiest ways to feel “in” with our community and has truly been a game-changing one for me in making the Playwrights’ Center feel like a home, a nexus, and a place to rest, return to, and begin again.

For an Australian playwright, a theatrical life outside one’s own country can feel a very remote possibility. Joining the Playwrights’ Center has given me an enormous amount of new energy and wider scope. It brings the world to my small bayside suburb.
